(PatriotSpotlight.org) – In a shock political maneuver, former President Donald Trump met with Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Monday morning, shortly ahead of the Republican National Convention (RNC). The meeting has fueled speculation about potential endorsements and strategic alliances in the closely contested race.
Kennedy confirmed the fresh encounter in an official statement released Monday afternoon but downplayed rumors that the primary objective was to secure his endorsement for Trump. “Lots of rumors going around about my meeting this morning with President Trump,” Kennedy posted on social platform X. “Our main topic was national unity, and I hope to meet with Democratic leaders about that as well.” He further clarified that he was not dropping out of the race.
An endorsement from Kennedy, who polls at 8 percent in national averages, could be a game-changer in the tight race. Trump currently leads with 42 percent, while President Biden trails closely at 40 percent. Adding another layer to the political drama, President Biden directed Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to collaborate with the U.S. Secret Service to provide protection for Kennedy—a request the Independent candidate has been advocating for over a year. Kennedy expressed his gratitude in a statement for the protection, a significant development in light of recent events. Kennedy has been criticized for his skepticism of vaccines and comments which suggested he believed in abortion up to birth, which he later U-turned on.
This directive comes on the heels of a shocking assassination attempt on Trump over the weekend, which has intensified calls for “immediate” enhanced security measures by the Secret Service for presidential candidates. Trump himself echoed this sentiment earlier on Monday, advocating for Kennedy’s protection in light of the heightened danger. Writing to the Truth Social microblogging platform, Trump said that: “Given the history of the Kennedy Family, this is the obvious right thing to do!” At this week’s RNC, Trump was formally appointed the Republican Party’s 2024 nominee ahead of November’s presidential election. He also appointed Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his Vice Presidential running mate.
