(PatriotSpotlight.org) – Former President Donald Trump has named Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio) as his Vice-Presidential pick. The choice has naturally sparked a backlash from President Biden’s camp, with his Chair Jen O’Malley Dillon publishing a scathing statement this Monday which accused Vance of “enabling” Trump.
She claimed J.D. Vance would have “bent over backwards” to satisfy Trump’s demands on January 6th 2021, as then Vice President Mike Pence did not.
O’Malley slammed Vance’s links to Project 2025, a policy platfom of conservative think tank the Heritage Foundation, which pushes for the extension of policies already rolled out during Trump’s previous tenure.
O’Mally also focused on Catholic Vance’s largely pro-life politics and expression of doubts over whether the 2020 election results were legitimate. “Billionaires and corporations are literally rooting for J.D. Vance: they know he and Trump will cut their taxes and send prices skyrocketing for everyone else,” O’Malley Dillon added, underscoring what she sees as Vance’s potential harm to ordinary Americans.
The G.O.P. quickly leapt to Vance’s defense, praising his communication skills and dedication to conservatism. Speaking with CNN after the announcement, Donald Trump Jr. spoke highly of Vance, best known for his memoir “Hillbilly Elegy” which was later turned into a feature film. He said Vance was an “incredible” pick and a good person to help “unify” the country.
Vance has long been a critic of liberal doctrines, including their impact on the deprived rural communities he grew up in and for which he has advocated extensively. In particular, he has spoken about the need to encourage family stability, industrialization and crackdown on drug epidemics in such areas.
Trump’s campaign will likely have taken note of the fact that many such areas are often located in swing states such as Vance’s native Ohio. This announcement also comes amidst increasing speculation that incumbent VP Harris could replace Biden as the Democratic nominee amid the latter’s series of public blunders and speculation over his mental competence.
