(PatriotSpotlight.org) – A Boeing aircraft made an urgent landing in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. This is the latest in a long line of negative headlines for the firm in recent weeks. KTLA-TV reports that American Airlines Flight 345, a Boeing 777, landed safely at the Los Angeles International Airport in Southern California just prior to 9 p.m. on March 13th after the pilot told air traffic controllers that they were experiencing a “possible mechanical issue”. There were no reported injuries.
The report said that the plane had a blown-out tire, grimly echoing an event this Monday, in which a midair Boeing jet lost a tire while flying over San Francisco. On Thursday, March 7th, a United Airlines-operated Boeing jet was found to have been leaking hydraulic fluid throughout a takeoff at San Francisco airport. The plane was forced to revert its journey and land at the same airport it had been aiming to depart. There have been 5 major safety incidents on Boeing planes in the 7 days leading up to Wednesday, March 13th.
50 people were also injured on March 11th when an Auckland-bound Boeing plane nosedived en route from Sydney, Australia. While none of the U.S. incidents appeared to have caused injuries to passengers, airline staff, or people on the ground, concerns understandably continue to grow over air safety. In January, an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX jet lost a door at high altitude. It later became clear that crucial bolts had been missing from the door due to a maintenance error.
Erstwhile Boeing employee, John Barnett, who became a whistleblower on the firm’s practices was recently found dead after an alleged “self-inflicted” gunshot wound. Barnett, who worked with Boeing for some 30 years, had traveled to Charleston, South Carolina to offer a deposition against the aviation giant, claiming that it had been cutting corners on safety policies. Barnett’s lawyers said they were shocked at his death and claimed there had been no signs he had planned to commit suicide.
