(PatriotSpotlight.org) – U.S. forces in the Middle East have undertaken their second airdrop of humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip. This action took place around 2:30 PM Gaza time on Tuesday March 5, with support from the Royal Jordanian Air Force. Some 36,000 meals were delivered to the war-torn Palestinian territory by both the U.S. Army and Air Force, and the Department of Defense said the supplies were dropped on the areas of Gaza which were most at-need.
The area is under assault from Israeli troops amid their ongoing ground invasion. The Israeli assault is a response to the October 7 attack on Southern Israel by Hamas and other Gaza-based terror groups. Ceasefire negotiations have stalled repeatedly and there have been calls by extremist Palestinian leaders for Ramadan violence.
U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris recently held talks on the conflict with Israeli War Cabinet minister Benny Gantz despite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s chagrin. V.P Harris has called for an immediate end to the war, and has said Hamas ought to reconsider Jerusalem’s latest proposals. Both she and President Joe Biden have expressed concerns over the mounting casualties in the war, alongside humanitarian issues relating to food and water supplies.
There is evidence that the terror groups controlling parts of the territory have not distributed humanitarian supplies fairly. Aid vehicles have crossed Gaza’s borders with Israel and Egypt respectively throughout the war. The United Nations’ World Food Program paused its food deliveries to the Strips’ northern areas on 20th Feb. following violence and looting.
While Israel backs these airdrops, critics have suggested that their efficacy is not of the same level of ground-based deliveries. This latest initiative comes after Thursday, Feb. 29 saw a horrific incident unfold, in which more than 100 people were thought to have died as Gazans found themselves caught in a chaotic stampede when approaching an aid convoy. Over 100 hostages kidnapped from Israel are estimated to still be in Gaza.
