(PatriotSpotlight.org) – Ex-US President Donald Trump has expressed his concerns over a forthcoming testimony to the Jan. 6 Select Committee. Cassidy Hutchinson, who served as assistant to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows under Trump, testified before the contentious committee in 2022.
Posting to his Truth Social platform this week, Trump, the frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination addressed his anxieties about Huntington’s testimony, which he described as “made up (FAKE!) stories.” Hutchinson previously said that Trump took part in a scuffle with Secret Service agents on Jan. 6 in a bid to seize control of his official limousine. Trump has vehemently denied this allegation. In its 11 March 2024 report, the House Subcommittee on Oversight, chaired by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.), referred to discrepancies in the committee’s handling of evidence and said that Hutchinson’s testimony lacked back-up from other witnesses, including the Secret Service agents she claimed Trump had confronted.
Despite her high-profile accusation, Hutchinson’s story did not appear to add up, but she was given a platform to share them in a public hearing. Across subsequent months interviews with other witnesses did not support Hutchinson’s version of events. Former Secret Service agent Tony Ornato, who Hutchinson referred to in her account, directly refuted her claims during a transcribed interview, stating that he had first heard of such allegations in Hutchinson’s televised testimony. The Secret Service agent who drove Trump on Jan. 6 also denied witnessing the altercation as described by Hutchinson.
Trump has continued to urge accountability on the matter, including whether Hutchinson will face legal repercussions for her allegedly false testimony. He has also criticized the committee as a whole, suggesting legal action could be pursued against its members. Trump also suggested that former Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, who vice-chaired the Jan. 6 committee, should face jail. Trump did not specify what exact crimes he believes Hutchinson, Cheney and the rest of her Committee colleagues might be guilty of. The events surrounding Jan. 6 will no doubt continue to play a part in both GOP and Democrat messaging in the lead-up to November’s Presidential election.
