(PatriotSpotlight.org) – Donald Trump has accused independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. of being a Democrat ploy to dent his vote and boost President Joe Biden’s campaign for reelection.
In a video posted to his Truth Social platform, ex-President Trump, the only major contender for the GOP’s presidential nomination, complained that RFK Jr, who has voiced support for abortion up to the point of birth, is a “radical” leftist and “more liberal” than any other Democratic candidates. Concerns regarding vote splitting likely pushed Trump toward warning Republicans against backing Kennedy, slamming the potential for “wasted” protest votes.
Trump said Kennedy had been deliberately installed to aid “Crooked Joe Biden” who he claimed was the “worst” ever U.S. president. Trump said Kennedy backed open borders, and high taxes and is anti-military and anti-veteran. He also said Kennedy’s stance on vaccines was “fake” as he had recently made remarks in support of them despite his decades-long history of anti-vaccine advocacy. Trump positioned himself as a backer of the controversial Covid vaccine rollout, referring to his administration’s “Operation Warp Speed” scheme. This is despite many of Trump’s supporters being skeptical of vaccines.
The Trump campaign has not remarked on the former president’s vaccine stance in the wake of this spat with Kennedy, however senior campaign adviser Brian Hughes published a statement which characterized Kennedy as an “existential threat” to Joe Biden, not his boss. Kennedy’s independent run has fueled speculation regarding the possible impact on the Trump and Biden dynamic. Recent polling data is conflicting on the matter, with some suggesting he could garner more Democrat votes, while others affirm Trump’s fears that he could woo Republicans.
This is hardly Trump’s first public row with Kennedy. In a clip also shared to Truth Social earlier this year, Trump said Kennedy was more pro-Democrat than he appeared at first glance, and argued that his candidacy could bolster the “MAGA” movement. He also hinted at Kennedy’s legal troubles due to his alleged links to “environmental fraud”.
