(PatriotSpotlight.org) – Ultra-progressive Democrat Representative Rashida Tlaib has told Michigan Democrats to vote against President Joe Biden in the midwestern state’s imminent primary election, set for February 27. She told Blue Michiganders to select the “uncommitted” vote in the upcoming poll. In a clip published by the left-wing “Listen to Michigan” campaign Tlaib stressed her displeasure with President Biden’s approach to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. She also said that Palestinian-Americans felt “unseen” and “neglected” by Washington, and accused the US government of forcing taxpayers to “fund” and “back” a “genocide” in Gaza.
Tlaib referred to Israel’s military actions in Gaza following the October 7th attack by Hamas and other terrorist groups based in the Palestinian coastal territory, slamming what she described as the White House’s “unwavering” support for Israel. The Hamas-led local authorities claim Israeli airstrikes have killed 29,000 Palestinians since October 2023.
Tlaib, who was born to a Palestinian immigrant family in 1976, urged voters to stand against violence. On 17 February, addressing a crowd in Ford Community & Performing Arts Center in Dearborn, a city home to the US’ largest Arab American community, she argued that, “enough is enough.” She said she did not want the US to back “wars and bombs and destruction”, and claimed she wished to “support life,” and protested the loss of any life in Gaza.
The US congresswoman said Michigan Democrats must mobilize their voting rights to amplify their opinions, telling them to “vote uncommitted”. This pushback by Tlaib, the only Palestinian-American in Congress, follows alleged efforts by the Biden campaign to repair its relationship with his party’s more progressive wing. Former Ohio state senator Nina Turner showed her support for Tlaib following her remarks, although the right-wing group Republicans Against expressed doubt about Tlaib’s leadership and prospects of reelection. Tlaib was censured by the GOP-led House in 2023 following her public comments on Israel, in which she suggested that the chant “from the river to the sea” was a call for freedom and human rights, despite widespread evidence it is a call from the destruction of Israel and its Jewish residents.
