(PatriotSpotlight.org) – Speaking to the right-leaning Newsmax television channel, Senator Dan Sullivan of Alaska slammed the Biden administration’s stance on Iran, claiming President Biden was refusing to impose adequate sanctions on the Middle Eastern country out of fear.
Sullivan pointed out the major financial growth the country had undergone since President Biden arrived in the Oval Office, comparing it with Iran’s more dire economic growth during the Trump administration. Sullivan said that Iran’s foreign reserves skyrocketed to $75 billion under Biden’s presidency, a huge increase from the $4 billion it had when former President Trump exited office in January 2021. He said sanctions also ought to be increased, and expressed his frustration with the administration’s coyness on the matter.

The Senator’s comments underscore the deep-seated partisan divide over U.S. foreign policy towards Iran. While Republicans like Sullivan advocate for a tough stance involving stringent sanctions, Democrats often prefer focusing on diplomacy and talks. It is also worth noting that Sullivan’s approach tightly aligns with the GOP’s wider more hawkish view of Iran. Republicans generally preferred a tougher stance on the Islamic regime, calling for maximum pressure on the technocracy to foil its plans to create nuclear weapons and its wide-ranging support for Islamist terrorist groups across the region, including Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis in Yemen.
The Biden administration has repeatedly signaled its willingness to re-engage in talks with Iran, aiming to revive the 2015 nuclear deal abandoned by the Trump administration. As debates over Iran policy rumble on, the Biden administration continues to face mounting pressure to aid and encourage diplomatic engagement while also discouraging Iran’s destabilizing activities in the Middle East.
