(PatriotSpotlight.org) – Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is standing by her fierce criticism of House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) relating to foreign aid. Speaking to Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast, Greene doubled down on her skepticism over continued aid to Ukraine in its war against Russia’s invasion. Speaking to the former Trump aide, Greene dismissed claims that Russian aggression could contribute to a third world war.
Greene said she had “asked for proof” of such claims, referencing her questions in a recent conference. She said that “no one could answer” her questions, and that the only response she got from a fellow member of Congress was that no proof was available. Greene also went on to slam what she deemed the manipulation of US politicians via “scary stories,” pressing her colleagues to prioritize domestic issues via an “America First” agenda. She argued that Republican leaders needed to focus on the interests of American citizens over international aid.
With tensions in the GOP on the up, Speaker Johnson will need to somewhat tiptoe around both moderate and conservative factions to fulfil his agenda, and will certainly court Democratic representatives in order to advance more foreign aid bills. He plans to forward discrete legislation for each country’s assistance plans. Despite the calls from Greene and her allies for Johnson’s ousting, there is widespread doubt that their push will succeed. Three members of the House Rules Committee have threatened a motion to remove him, but it is unlikely to succeed given his backing among Democrats.
As the GOP grapples with internal divisions, the outcome of this power struggle could shape the party’s trajectory in the coming months. The ongoing divisions among House Republicans signal wider and growing battles among conservatives, especially regarding foreign policy as regards ongoing wars in Ukraine and Israel. Greene, who was first elected to Congress in 2020 has garnered global publicity over her brash commentary and conservative views. She famously claimed that California wildfires were being deliberately caused by Rothschild-owned space lasers.
