(PatriotSpotlight.org) – Information has emerged about a 2-year saga of abandonment of a nine-year-old boy forced to live alone in an apartment in southwest France. His mom made the callous decision to shack up with her lover and leave the youngster behind.
French news outlets state that the boy’s mother moved in with her new partner three miles away, leaving the youth to fend for himself in a public apartment in Nersac, located on the outskirts of Angoulême.
The mother was found guilty of abandoning and endangering a youngster and earned six months in jail last week. Her name is still unknown. No accusations were brought against the boy’s father, who lived in a separate town.
Between 2020 and 2022, the youngster was alone and dealt with problems, including unreliable heat, hot water, and power. To adjust, he began to use cold water for washing and to wrap himself in blankets and sleeping bags for warmth.
He begged neighbors for food and scavenged tomatoes off a neighbor’s balcony to get by. The youngster was eventually brought into care after his neighbors informed the authorities about what they were witnessing.
Neighbors had voiced their worries to the boy’s mother before her arrest. She retaliated by stating her son’s care was her priority and ordering them to leave her affairs to herself.
He was a model student who always showed up to school, kept himself clean, and maintained high marks so no one noticed his life of isolation and maltreatment. His diligence let him go undetected while he lived lonely and neglected.
The town’s mayor, Barbara Couturier, said that since the youngster looked after himself so well, she didn’t think anyone would have recognized the situation. To her, it seemed like he was trying to protect himself by telling himself everything was OK.
A fellow student of the boy’s told reporters that the boy had spoken of having meals alone. Instead of going out, he opted to remain at home.
