(PatriotSpotlight.org) – Child Protective Services (CPS) in the State of Montana have been criticized for allegedly “kidnapping” a teenager from her family.
The 14-year-old girl in question has been removed from her parent’s custody, and was transported to Wyoming where she hoped to undergo gender transition surgery.
Mattie Watkins, a media spokesperson for Montana parents Todd and Krista Kolstad, told right-leaning outlet The Gateway Pundit about the chilling dispute. Watkins claims the parents have been trapped in an emotionally taxing battle to retain custody of their daughter Jennifer, who now goes by he/him pronouns and the name “Leo,” following Montana CPS’ decision to effectively “kidnap” her against the family’s wishes.
The fiasco followed the passing of new Montana state laws, in April 2023, which prohibited medical gender reassignment for under-18s.
Ignoring the parents’ opposition, Montana CPS transported the Kolstads’ teenage child to neighboring Wyoming due to its less stringent laws on the matter. It was claimed that the 14-year-old had been experiencing sudden onset “gender dysphoria”.
Police told the parents in August 2023 that their daughter had texted a friend expressing suicidal thoughts and claiming that she had overdosed on Ibuprofen and drain cleaner in a bid to end her life. The hospital, and a toxicology report, later confirmed that Jennifer had not ingested either substance.
In an online video message, father Todd Kolstad, explained that his daughter had “struggled” from extensive school bullying, and that the family had even relocated to smaller town to allow her a “fresh start”. Kolstad, a US Air Force veteran, also implied his concerns about the “friend” who had passed on his daughter’s message to city police had only met his daughter in-person once, although they had had extensive phone contact.
He also said that the text message expressing suicidal thoughts came ahead of her first day of 9th grade the coming Monday, and after they had argued about the parents’ wishes for her to quit her summer job to focus on school henceforth.
