Jordan Claims Mayorkas Willfully Created Border Crisis

(PatriotSpotlight.org) – Speaking exclusively to the right-leaning broadcaster, Newsmax, GOP House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan has issued a scathing put-down of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Jordan asserts that Mayorkas played a key role in intentionally orchestrating the ongoing crisis at the southern border. Jordan, who represents Ohio’s fourth district, claimed that Mayorkas’s actions justified his impeachment.

On Wednesday, the Republican-led chamber succeeded in a razor-thin 214 to 213 vote in favor of Mayorkas’ impeachment, making him the first cabinet member to face such a measure in more than 150 years. The final decision on the matter will be voted on by the Democrat-led Senate, where it is likely to rule in Mayorkas’ favor. As Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, who was appointed by President Joe Biden to the role in 2021, is responsible for overseeing the Department of Homeland Security’s responsibilities to safeguard the country from internal and external threats from terrorism to immigration-related issues.

Jordan stressed his frustration with the current border situation, complaining that the US were on pace to receive 12 million illegal migrants over the course of Biden’s term, the equivalent of the entire population of Ohio, the US’ seventh most populous state. The conservative lawmaker blamed the crisis on deliberate policy decisions taken by the Biden White House which terminated the “Remain in Mexico” policy and paused border wall construction. Mayorkas has blamed Congress for the ongoing issues, due to their failure to agree on border security measures, while Biden has slammed the impeachment vote as “unconstitutional partisanship”.

Jordan also went on to accuse Mayorkas-who served as Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security under Barack Obama- of offering misleading information, both to Congress and American voters, regarding the crisis on the US southern border. Jordan said he had “come in front of the Congress,” but had failed to be “square” with representatives or the American people. The issue of immigration is likely to play a major role in November’s Presidential election, with some 41 per cent of polled US adults telling a June 2023 survey that they thought immigration ought to be reduced.

As House Judiciary Chair Jordan oversees key matters relating to law enforcement, immigration, and the judiciary system.
