Gaza Protesters Strike Google Event

(PatriotSpotlight.org) – Hundreds of anti-Israel protesters chained themselves together to block the entrance to Google’s annual developer conference in Mountain View, California on Tuesday. The dramatic My 14 demonstration was geared toward condemning Google’s alleged links to Israeli military projects in light of the ongoing war in Gaza.

The No Tech for Genocide coalition, along with a slew of other Bay Area groups, rallied next to the Google I/O conference chanting and displaying a banner that called on the multi-billion dollar corporation to “stop fueling genocide.” They also distributed anti-Israel literature to Google employees entering the conference,

Demonstrators told the press that Israel was using Google AI technology to carry out genocide and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip. Many attendees complained about Google’s alleged links to Project Nimbus, which reportedly offers $1.2 billion worth of AI and cloud computing services to the Israeli government.

Ex-Google employee Ariel Koren, who alleges she was fired from the firm after criticizing Project Nimbus in 2022, asserted that contracts such as the former were facilitating “genocide” via Artificial Intelligence. Israel has been accused of using AI to target thousands of targets of sites in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip. There is no evidence Israel has used AI technology to deliberately target civilians, nor that any AI technology linked to Google has been used in the Gaza conflict. Google continues to refute any links between its technology and the war.

This protest was hardly the first inkling of complaints within Google’s ranks. In April more than 50 employees had their contracts terminated for taking part in “disruptive” protests against Project Nimbus. They alleged that the sit-ins were a response to the company’s refusal to heed their concerns. Previous strife at the company included mass walkouts in 2018 in the wake of alleged issues of racism and sexual harassment at the firm. While Google moves to launch major developments at this landmark annual conference, questions over its staff and practices linger.
