(PatriotSpotlight.org) – A fresh survey from the UK pollster YouGov for the Times of London has unveiled that most British adults do not trust police to solve crimes. This decline in confidence comes as police forces are criticized for focusing more on social issues and less on traditional crime-solving.
The survey concluded that over half of Britons lack faith in the police to solve crimes, while a third do not trust them to maintain law and order. Just 26 percent of respondents believed that police would make an arrest if they were burgled and only 7 percent expected pickpockets to face justice.
Former Metropolitan Police Detective Chief Inspector David Spencer already warned back in 2022 that the police’s focus on targeting minor offenses, such as potentially offensive tweets, over traditional crimes could impede public confidence.
The data also found that a mere 37 percent of people were confident that a report of sexual assault would lead to an arrest and trial. This has raised questions about the overall competence and focus of police forces, especially given their increased involvement in internet monitoring and promoting progressive ideologies.
Another recent report also showed that police failed to solve just one burglary in nearly half of all neighborhoods in England and Wales over the past three years. Burglary charge rates were at 3.9 percent in 2023, down from 4.6 percent the year prior. A new poll from the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) also concluded that almost one-quarter of Londoners had been physically attacked or threatened with violence over the past half-decade. More than half of respondents said they wanted more police patrols.
The British Retail Consortium reported a shocking surge in shoplifting, resulting in losses of £1.8 billion in the year up to August 2023, almost twice the previous year’s figures. Dame Sharon White, who chairs the John Lewis Partnership which owns several major UK retail outlets, criticized the police’s “systemic” and “organized” failure to respond to shoplifting.
