DeSantis Endorses Trump as He Leaves the Race

(PatriotSpotlight.org) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis withdrew from the 2024 presidential contest and soon after offered his endorsement of former president Donald Trump.

Trump expressed his deepest gratitude when Florida Republican Ron DeSantis (R) paused his campaign on Sunday to endorse the 45th president. Trump called the move an honor.

In a video posted on X on Sunday afternoon, DeSantis disclosed his decision to withdraw from the race, saying more than half of the Republicans who voted in the primary want to give Donald Trump another opportunity.

DeSantis said they saw Democrats using lawfare to attack him, and they watched his presidency get stymied by relentless resistance. He said even though they differ on issues like the coronavirus epidemic and Trump’s promotion of Dr. Anthony Fauci, he still thinks he’s better than Joe Biden.

After taking first place in the Iowa caucuses on January 15th, Trump solidified his lead in the race. With double digits, Trump leads the Republican presidential candidate, Nikki Haley (S.C.).

Despite Ron DeSantis’s endorsement of Trump, his statements after Sunday’s withdrawal from the Republican presidential campaign indicate that the enmity between the two men is far from healed. He said almost every Republican who has expressed doubt or resistance to Trump—including presidential hopefuls this cycle—ends up “kissing the ring.”

Trump and his cronies relentlessly and very personally attacked DeSantis, crushing his promising candidacy. The wounds are too fresh for DeSantis to go quietly.
Immediately upon withdrawing from the campaign, DeSantis said he would veto a Republican plan to allow the use of Florida taxpayer funds to cover Trump’s legal expenses.

Ahead of Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary, which will decide Trump’s nomination fate, DeSantis appeared on “The Steve Deace Show” to raise concerns about the candidate he had just backed.

The governor of Florida asserted that the “corporate media” had “flipped” to warning of Biden’s weaknesses, following months of endorsing Trump as a “juggernaut” capable of defeating the president.

Many have wondered if 45-year-old DeSantis, who will serve as governor of Florida until 2026, might seek the presidency again in 2028.
