CVS Pulls the Plug on Crime-Riddled DC Store

(PatriotSpotlight.org) – The closure of yet another well-liked store is the latest sad trend in towns where prosecutors do not prioritize stealing as a significant crime.

The major drugstore corporation CVS released a statement saying they’ve made the difficult decision to close their store in the Columbia Heights area of northwest Washington, D.C.

Teenage marauders have looted the store on many occasions, leaving shelves empty, which leaves the store functionally useless to law-abiding paying customers.

The business was targeted by thieves at specific times of day when supplies were expected. Several workers said street sellers were paying the robbers to take their goods so they may sell them later. Street vendors were reportedly peddling the same wares that had been stocked on the pharmacy’s shelves. They observed vendors peddling toothbrushes, body washes for men and women, air fresheners, laundry detergent, and cleaning goods just outside the CVS.

The 29th of February will be the last day the CVS branch will be open for business. The corporation is moving all active prescriptions to different nearby locations.

Organized retail theft seems not limited to only this particular drugstore. Thieves stole toiletries, detergent, and other things from six CVS locations in the District of Columbia for ten days.

The three-paragraph CVS statement doesn’t cite criminality as the reason the Columbia Heights store was closing. Instead, it outlined population shifts, a community’s store density, local market dynamics, and ensuring other geographic access points meet its needs. Corporations bend over backward and use “word salads” and vague terms to avoid offending certain sensibilities.

According to the announcement, employees can apply for positions at any other fifty CVS stores in the District of Columbia.

Despite the high crime rate in the nation’s capital, CVS continues to have a sizable presence there.

The number of robberies reported so far in 2023 is 68% more than the same period in 2022. Metropolitan Police Department statistics reveal that there have been 1,395 property crime incidents in 2024, down from 1,615 in the same period in 2023.
In 2023, 3,470 robberies were reported.
